Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The warning has been issued following reports about the death of cattle due to anthrax within the limits of Aamachal primary health centre. Though the disease first appears in cattle, those who come into contact with cattle during work should be extra careful. Those cleaning cowsheds should wear gloves, boots and facemask. Disinfectants should be used in cowsheds while cleaning and care should be taken to wash hands, face and feet with soap after work. Those who have any kind of wounds or lesions on hands or feet should not tend cattle till the wounds are well healed. The waste removed from the cattle shed should be burnt. Cattle should be vaccinated against anthrax in areas where the disease has been reported. Animals that show the symptoms of the disease should be isolated. The DMO has also directed that those handling meat should do it strictly in accordance with the directives of veterinary doctors. The local bodies should take strict measures to ensure this. The carcass of animals suspected to have died of anthrax should be buried in pits.
