Telecast stayed

By Our Legal Correspondent

New Delhi May 13. The Supreme Court has stayed a Calcutta High Court order permitting the telecast of the mega serial "Karishma — a miracle of destiny" on Sahara TV. Detailed hearing will be held on Wednesday.

The New York-based novelist, Barbara Taylor Bradford, sought stay of the telecast alleging that it was based on her novel "A Woman of Substance".

A single Judge of the High Court had restrained the channel from telecasting the serial. However, a Division Bench stayed his order.

Counsel for Ms. Bradford contended that she was the holder of the copyright of the novel and that she had not authorised anyone to make any serial or film.
