Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the report that the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, wants to travel by train on May 30 to inaugurate a railway depot in Harnot, Bihar. We had Presidents who stayed in ivory towers and enjoyed their retired life by getting full salary and all comforts and occasional foreign tours and never mixed with the common people to know their problems. Dr. Kalam is different and mixes with the people especially students. We have a President who is cost-conscious and patriotic, and the country can progress with the least expense and less corruption. The judiciary and the Election Commission should make use of this opportunity to rid the country of criminal politicians and officials. B.S. Ganesh, Bangalore
