Merin Eapen of the Bethany St.John's EMHS, Kunnamkulam, of Thrissur district and Ranjani K. of the Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, have been ranked the first among 5,75,624 candidates who appeared for the examinations. Both of them scored 589 out of a maximum of 600 marks. The former is the daughter of K. Eapen John, Kollannoor House, Indira Nagar, Kunnamkulam, and the latter, the daughter of K. S. Krishnan, Pushpa Vilas, near the Government Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram. For the second rank too, there are two claimants Divya Gopinathan, Kanikkamatha Convent EM Girls High School, Palakkad, and Kishen K.Warrier, CCPLMAIHS, Perumanoor, Ernakulam. Both secured 587 marks. Divya is the daughter of K. Gopinathan, Kurupath House, Mathur, Palakkad. Incidentally, Kishen, son of K. A. Kishore Kumar, Chithira, Thoppumpady, Ernakulam, is also the topper among the 2,38,914 male candidates who had appeared for the examination. A very close third came Poornima Ramadas, of the Providence Girls' HSS, Nadakkavu, Kozhikode, who secured 586 marks. She is the daughter of K. T. Ramadas of Bilathikulam, Kozhikode. The first rank among the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes has gone to Dimya Divakaran, daughter of T. K. Divakaran, Kozhinjiramkade House, Pallatheri, Palakkad. She secured 579 marks. Christa Ann Jacob of the Carmel Girls' HS, Thiruvananthapuram, with 556 marks, came first among the Scheduled Tribe candidates. She is the daughter of K. S. Jacob, Kuzhiyamparayil House, Kunnam, Vechoochira, Pathanamthitta. Announcing the results at a press conference here this morning, the Minister for Education, Nalakathu Soopy, said that as many as 177 students were among the first 15 ranks. Among the 3,61,904 candidates who were declared to have passed, there are 26,499 distinctions and 74,220 first classes this year. The number of candidates placed in the second class is 58,624. Mr. Soopy said the SSLC mark cards would be made available at the District Educational Offices before May 28. The last date for submitting applications for the scrutiny of marks and revluation of answer papers is June 5. He said the Save A Year (SAY) examination for candidates who failed in just one subject, would be held on June 9.
