CM to open new KAP-III headquarters today

The newly-constructed headquarters of the KAP-III at Vadakkadathukavu near Adoor.

PATHANAMTHITTA May 15. The Chief Minister, A.K.Antony, will inaugurate the new head quarters complex of the Kerala Armed Police, third battalion, at Adoor tomorrow afternoon.

The KAP-III head quarters that offer the best available facilities in the whole State has been constructed by the Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation Ltd (KPHCCL) at Vadakkadathukavu Paruthippara near Adoor at a total cost of Rs. 18 crores.

The KAP commandant, K.Vijaysankar, said the modern KAP camp in 39 acres has got self-contained barracks, family quarters for officers and other staff, besides a sprawling parade ground, indoor stadium, auditorium, automobile garage, well-equipped training centre, police club, etc.

A school, hospital and post office will also be set up at the KAP camp soon, according to Mr Vijaysankar.

The State Bank of Travancore will open a branch at the camp, he added. The new police camp is said to be the best one of its kind in the whole country. The new KAP complex has got the provision of independent rooms for the head constables too.

It was the former Chief Minister, E.K.Nayanar, who had laid the foundation stone for the KAP complex in 1997.

The KAP-III battallion constituted for the law and order maintenance in the three districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha in 1983 is presently accommodated at the Special Armed Police camp in Thiruvananthapuram.

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MLA, will preside over the inaugural function to be held at 4-30 p.m. tomorrow. The KPHCCL Managing Director, Alphons Louis Erayil, IPS, will present the report.

Mr Kodikkunnil Suresh, MP, the District Panchayat president, Mathew Kulathumkal, the Erath grama panchayat president, Adoor Mohandas, member V.Prasannan and havildar G.Suresh will speak.

A ceremonial parade would also be held at the new police parade ground as part of the function, Mr Vijaysankar said.
