AIR to conduct music contest

BANGALORE MAY 16. All India Radio (AIR), Bangalore, is organising a music competition to discover and encourage new talent among young artistes.

The competition will be held in two stages: preliminary competition at each AIR station and the final competition in Delhi and Chennai in Hindustani and Carnatic music, respectively.

An entry fee of Rs. 100 is to be paid for participating in the competition.

The candidates should send it to the Station Director of the respective station by Money Order along with the applications.

The competition is open to those aged between 16 and 24 as on June 30, 2003.

The participants should not be performing artistes of AIR, approved and graded by LAC/MAB or not graded in LAC/MAB auditions held by any AIR station till the date of the competition.

The competition will be held in the following categories: vocal music (classical and light music - Hindustani and Carnatic, and light classical - Hindustani); devotional music - Devaranamas, Vachanas, Ashtapadi, Taranga, Annamacharya, Sankeertana, Bhadrachala, Ramdas kirtanas, Adhyatma kritis, Tulasi Vanam compositions, Tirupphal, Tevaram, Tiruvachakam, and Utsava Sampraday kritis of Thyagaraja; instrumental music (classical - Hindustani and Carnatic); and vrindagaana (chorus).

Winners in the preliminary competition will participate in the final competition.

Prizes will be given to the winners in the final competition.

Those interested in participating in the competition can obtain applications from the AIR station in their area.

The last date for submitting applications is June 6.
