The Surat Police Commissioner, D.K. Gupta, told mediapersons that the owners of a Surat-based company manufacturing "Praful'' brand sarees had lodged complaints with the police of having received threatening calls from some Mumbai-based underworld dons asking for money on behalf of the Shettys. The dispute between the two was over some five-year-old advertisement campaign in which Shilpa was featured endorsing "Praful sarees.'' The contract was claimed to be for Rs. 3 crores but sources said the millowners paid the Shettys only Rs. 50 lakhs.
