Kalam recalls visit to Buddhist monastery

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI MAY 16. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has sent a message on the occasion of Buddha purnima, recalling a meeting during his recent visit to a 400-year-old Buddhist Monastery at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

"we saw serenity and peace prevailing all over the place. During the discussion with the Chief Monk of the Monastery, I asked him how he spread peace in Tawang and all around.

The respected Monk said: "India is a nation of peace. Peace emanates from enlightened minds''.

"How to achieve this''?

He said, `when you remove `I' and `me' from your mind, then you eliminate ego, If you eliminate ego, hatred towards fellow human beings vanishes; if hatred goes out of our mind, violence will not spring from the human mind. Then peace and peace and peace will blossom'' On this day, let this great message of peace engulf us''.
