The girl, who had enlisted as a Plus Two student at a private tutorial in Kazhakkoottam, had been reported missing by her mother. The girl, who had gone to attend classes at the tutorial, had failed to return home. Her father is employed in the Gulf. Police said recently the girl's family received a telephone call from one Lalu (27) stating that the missing girl was in his custody. Lalu is an accused in two murder cases and the worker of a national political party, police said. He is the first accused in the case relating to the murder of one Lali Kumar at Nehru Junction early this year. Lalu, who is suspected of having kidnapped the minor girl, also figured among the list of accused in a murder case registered by the Kazhakkoottam police in 2001. There were several other cases, including assault and intimidation, pending against the suspect at the Kazhakkoottam and Thumba police stations, police said. The girl's family denied having knowledge of any liaison between their ward and the suspect, Lalu, according to the police. The girl's family members had stated that Lalu and his gang members used to hang around the area where the private tutorial is situated. The Thumba police have constituted a special team to track down the girl and arrest the accused. Investigations are on.
