By Amit Baruah

NEW DELHI MAY 19. Nalin Surie, currently Additional Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been named India's new Ambassador to China. Mr. Surie will succeed Shivshankar Menon, who moves as High Commissioner to Pakistan.

It is expected that the formal nod from the Chinese authorities to Mr. Surie's candidature will come soon given the prospective visit by the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, to Beijing. A formal announcement will be made after China consents to the appointment.
