Janmabhoomi next round being put off

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD MAY 20. The next round of Janmabhoomi— the people's participatory programme— scheduled to be held from June 1 to 10, is being postponed to a later date. Dedicated to farmers and women, the 19th round of Janmabhoomi is aimed at distribution of assets to these sections at the "gram sabhas."

But, the Government has now decided to defer this once-a-quarter programme to June 9 or even later following requests to that effect by Ministers, MPs, MLAs and TDP leaders to the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu.

An official spokesman said the main reason that weighed in favour of the postponement was the high day temperatures which would keep people indoors besides the severe drought and scarcity of drinking water. All functionaries have been summoned to Hyderabad to participate in the party's two-day broad-based meeting on May 19 and 20.
