Extremists torch three tippers

By Our Staff Reporter

ADILABAD MAY 20. Suspected People's War naxalites set ablaze three tippers belonging to a private company attending the surface work in Goleti open cast mines of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited under Rebenna Police Station limits late last night.

Reports reaching here said 12 armed extremists led by the Mangi area District committee member, Tekam Motiram, came to the open cast mines and forced the drivers of the tippers to line up. The naxals broke open the diesel tanks of the vehicles and poured fuel on the tyres and body and set them ablaze.

Three vehicles were badly burnt and the officials are yet to assess the damage to the property. The naxals while leaving the place handed over a letter to the drivers. The naxals said they had resorted to the violent act to protest the killing of the District committee secretary, Lalitakka. They appealed to the people to make the May 23 bandh a success.

According to the Tandur CI, Tajuddin, this is the fourth time the naxals have targeted the Goleti open cast mines. The first time, the PW naxals attacked the CISF out post in the mines and killed an SI. There were two more occasions when the naxals burnt an excavator and a dumper belonging to a private contractor.
