By Our Staff Reporter
The statement said the party was thankful to the Central Government for so far clearing six irrigation projects including Devadula. The BJP also hailed the announcement that a new tribunal on the distribution of Krishna water among AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra would be cleared in the next Cabinet meeting. Dr. Laxman said the announcement by the Centre showed that it was according top priority to sanction of pending irrigation projects and drinking water schemes in Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that of the Rs. 300 crores released by the Centre under the Swajaldhara scheme, Rs. 100 crores were released to the State. He referred to the Minister's letter to the Karnataka Government not to go ahead with the Paragodu project work since it was against the Madras-Mysore accord. The letter would help protect the interest of the State people, particularly those belonging to Anantapur district. The BJP leader urged the Karnataka Government to stop work on Paragodu. If not the party, he said, would launch an agitation for bringing pressure on that State.
