Andhra Pradesh
By Our Staff Reporter
Official figures of the death roll were not available with the office of the Relief Commissioner, D.C. Rosaiah, as district Collectors did not furnish any report on the sunstroke deaths because "they do not constitute natural calamity.'' An official in Mr. Rosaiah's office told The Hindu on Tuesday that district Collectors who have funds available with them for such an eventuality could provide relief to such of those victims who were identified in the category of those falling below the povertyline. Meanwhile, the met office has warned of severe heatwave conditions prevailing in many parts of Andhra Pradesh and moderate heatwave conditions in Telangana region for the next 48 hours. The Met director, C.V. Bhadram, told The Hindu that the day's highest maximum temperature of 46.6 degree Centigrade was recorded at Kakinada. A report from Visakahapatnam quoting a special bulletin issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre said heatwave conditions were likely to continue for at least two more days.
