By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM May 20. The State Government has amended the existing Abkari rules to liberalise the licensing norms in the case of 1,363 toddy shops which have no takers.

An official statement said here today that under the new rules, those shops which had no takers as per the notified rentals would be eligible for concession on rentals ranging from 10 to 50 per cent.

The norms relating to bank guarantee of a month's wages of toddy shop workers and payment of welfare fund contributions have also been relaxed.

Out of the 4,356 toddy shops, the State Excise Department has not yet found licensees for 1363 shops.

The official statement said that in the event of one or more applicants coming forward to run the shops, the matter would be settled through a draw of lots.

Applicants are required to apply in the prescribed form along with documents relating to identity, sales tax, payment of welfare fund contributions.

In the event of default in payment of welfare fund contributions, the applicant would have to pay up fifty percent of the arrears amount and produce the relevant certificate attesting to this.
