Cell records show Minister was in touch with poetess

LUCKNOW MAY 20. Even though the sacked Uttar Pradesh Minister, Amarmani Tripathi, has denied any relations with the slain poetess, Madhumita Shukla, and claimed that he had last seen her three years ago, her cellphone records show that he was constantly in touch with the deceased.

A report from Lakhimpur Kheri claimed that the Minister was seen at a `kavi sammelan', which was organised by Madhumita at Gola Gokaranath in the district six months ago, contrary to his claims. There were photographs of Mr. Tripathi attending the function along with the other invitees.

Awaiting President's response: SP

Meanwhile, terming the decision of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, to hand over the Madhumita case to the CID as nothing but the final act in a ``sordid cover up operation'' to protect those in power, the Samajwadi Party said in Aligarh today that it was waiting for the President to respond to their pleas.
