Condition for monsoon advancement favourable

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI May 20. After remaining stationary for three days, the northern limit of the monsoon is now expected once again to begin advancing towards India. The forward march could re-start in a few days. Disclosing this, senior officials at the India Meteorological Department here said the condition for the advancement has become favourable, as the cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, which had curbed the movement, has crossed over from the sea to the land in Myanmar last night.

The officials, however, observed that it was too early to say when the monsoon would set over India. Kerala is the first entry point for monsoon and the `normal date' for its onset over the southern State is June 1.
