Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
Talking to The Hindu this evening, Mr. Yelakki said it is possible that the death of the Sambhar deer on May 16 was not due to dog bite. The Sambhar could have contracted rabies from the saliva of the Spotted deer which died about two weeks ago. Mr. Yelakki said he has identified three places from where the intrusion of dogs could have taken place the garden section near the main entrance to the zoo, over the boundary wall of the art gallery and through the drain passage leading out from the elephant enclosure. Immediate action will be taken to ensure that there are no further intrusions from these places. The staff have been asked to thoroughly comb the zoo perimeter to see whether there are any other potential intrusion points, he added.
