MLA killed

BHUBANESWAR MAY 21. A legislator of the Orissa Assembly, Baishnab Pradhan, was killed when his vehicle hit a truck near Gudia Kateni Chowk on the Angul-Dhenkanal road early today.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when Mr. Pradhan's jeep hit the truck. He was on his way to Bhubaneswar to attend a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of which he was a member.

Mr. Pradhan died on his way to the Dhenkanal hospital. His driver, who received serious injuries, is undergoing treatment at Dhenkanal.

Fify-two-year-old Mr. Pradhan was elected to the State Assembly in February 2000 from Birmaharajpur constituency on a Biju Janata Dal ticket. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
