Work on flyover put on hold

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE May 22. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has put on hold the construction of the flyover near National College in Basavangudi due to ``technical problems."

The Mahanagara Palike Commissioner, M.R.Sreenivas Murthy, announced this at an interaction with members of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) here on Thursday.

``It has been found that tracks designed under the Metro Rail Project are likely to overlap on the National College Flyover route on K.R. Road. So, we will wait till the design of metro rail project is finalised,'' he said.

Mr. Murthy said the Mahanagara Palike would ``redesign the flyover project to reconcile with the metro rail plans."

It may be noted that the Mahanagara Palike was determined to go ahead with the flyover project despite several protests and objections from the residents of Basavangudi. Even, the Cabinet gave its nod for the flyover last month.

Grade Separator

Work on the Rajajinagar Grade Separator would start in a few weeks. Work was delayed as the Mahanagara Palike faced some legal problems in acquiring land for the project, the Commissioner said.

He said proprietors of the Ram Kumar Mills had agreed to part with the land for the grade separator a few days ago.

For the convenience of vehicle users and decongestion of traffic, a Multi-level Car Parking lots were being constructed on JC Road, KG Road and Magarath Road.

These lots had parking capacity of 360, 400 and 960 cars respectively, he added.
