Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the article, "The madrassas in India", by Mushirul Hasan ( May 21 ). Of late, the think tanks and educationists among the Muslims are taking pains to hammer home the point to the managers of madrassas about the importance of imparting modern education in these institutions along with religious curriculum, not only to enable the students to earn their livelihood but also to erode the spurious propaganda against the madrassas that they are sponsoring anti-national activities. Seminars and workshops have been conducted during the past year in this direction by MEOMIN (Movement for Empowerment of Muslim Indian). It is time the HRD Ministry came up with a constructive education policy to enthuse Muslims to pursue academic curriculum also in the madrassas.
