Indian teams to fight for fifth slots

NEW DELHI MAY 23. The Indian girls team lost the decisive doubles to Japan and failed to qualify for the semifinals and thus the World Group final, in the Asia-Oceania World junior tennis tournament in Melbourne on Friday.

G. K. Shweta and Ashmitha Easwaramurthy were no match for Ayumi Morita and Emiko Ito of Japan and lost 0-6, 2-6 in the doubles this morning.

In the positional match, The Indian girls beat Idonesia 2-1. G. K. Shweta beat Viven Silfany 6-4, 6-1 and Ashmitha beat Lutfiana Aris Budharto 6-3, 6-3. In the doubles, Ashmitha and Gayathri Krishnan went down 0-6, 2-6 to Viven Silfany and Miasacca Panji Rindang Kasih.

In the match for the fifth place, the Indian girls will play Chinese Taipei

The Indian boys beat Chinese Taipei 2-1 in their positional match. Arnav Jain beat Hsien-Yin Peng 6-3, 6-1. Agnel Gladwin went down 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 to Hsu-Chun Huang. In the doubles, Arnav and Mesheer Vaswani beat Hsien-Yin Peng and Hsu-Chun Huang 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

The boys will play Korea for the fifth position.
