The AICC general secretary for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambika Soni, and the Pradesh Congress Committee president, Ghulam Nabi Azad, announced Mr. Singh's entry. Mr. Singh, son of the Congress leader in the Rajya Sabha, Karan Singh, and grandson of the erstwhile ruler of the State, Hari Singh, described his joining the party as a homecoming.Mr. Singh, who was defeated in the Assembly elections last October, said "My family has been associated with the Congress for three generations. After working in a regional party, I thought it was time to move on to a national party. Also, I realised that a regional party cannot do as much for the State as a national party like the Congress.''
