Announcing the results, the CBSE chairman, Ashok Ganguly, said 68.75 per cent girls cleared the board exams compared to 67.49 per cent boys. This was a reversal of the trend last year when boys had fared marginally better than girls at the secondary school level. Chennai (86.13 per cent) recorded the best pass percentage among the six regions of CBSE, while Chandigarh recorded 76.87 per cent, Allahabad 75.65 per cent, Ajmer 64.67 per cent, Delhi 57.47 per cent and Guwahati 47.24 per cent. Other than Chennai and Delhi which registered an improved performance by students compared to last year, all other four regions Ajmer, Guwahati, Allahabad and Chandigarh showed a decline in pass percentage of students.
