Strasbourg (France) May 25. Silvia Farina Elia of Italy won the title for the third consecutive year at the pre-French Open WTA tournament here on Saturday when she beat Croatia's Karolina Sprem 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the final.

Farina Elia, 31, was given a battle by the 18-year-old Croatian ranked just 183rd in the world and playing in her first final on the WTA tour.

The first two sets were shared before the more experienced Farina Elia wrapped up her third career title by taking the final set 6-4.

"I had to use my experience, be aggressive, change the rhythm of the matches and play well during important points," said the Italian. — AFP
