Lara, Hinds make merry

Port Of Spain (Trinidad) May 25. West Indies opening batsman Wavell Hinds and skipper Brian Lara put on an impressive 178-run partnership for the second wicket as West Indies scored 185 for two in 33 overs in the fifth one-day International against Australia here on Sunday.

Wavell Hinds notched up a brilliant 79 off 102 balls with seven boundaries and a six before he was caught by Adam Gilchrist off Andy Bichel. Chris Gayle was the first batsman to be dismissed when he was adjudged lbw off Brett Lee. Lara (76) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (1) were at the crease.

Lara won his fourth toss of the series and decided to bat.

(In reply, Australia were 153 for 4 in 32 overs with Symonds batting on 61.)
