Policeman kills family, himself

MUMBAI May 25. An Assistant Police Inspector, P. Sawant, shot his nine-year-old son and wife and then himself at his residence at Gulmohar Society of Chembur in North East Mumbai today. On hearing the gunshots, the neighbours called the police and the three were rushed to a nearby hospital, but they died there.

The police recovered a hand-written note which suggested that the police officer suffered from `deep depression' and killed the family and self with his service revolver because of `personal reasons,' according to the Joint Commissioner of Police, Javed Ahmed.
