CISF constable remanded

Raj Namdeo of the CISF who shot dead his commanding officer and took some of his colleagues hostage before surrendering at the international airport on Saturday, being taken to a court in Mumbai on Sunday.

Mumbai May 25. The CISF constable, Raj Namdeo, charged with killing his senior and detaining six of his colleagues during a seven-hour hostage drama last night at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, was today remanded to police custody till May 31.

The constable was produced before the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate, Beloshe Shah, today and had been charged with Section 302 IPC (murder), Section 304 IPC (attempt to murder), Section 341 IPC (wrongful restraint) and Section 342 IPC (wrongful confinement). He has also been charged with offences under Arms Act.

Apparently angry over denial of leave, he shot dead the Deputy Commandant, Karandekar, and held six of his colleagues, including five women, before surrendering at the persuasion of his parents.

He was detained for interrogation at the Sahar police station. He fired more than five rounds from his self-loading rifle at Karandekar who succumbed to the bullet injuries while he was being taken to the Holy Spirit Hospital.

Namdeo would be produced before a regular court at Andheri on May 31.

`Namdeo also shot at CCTV monitor'

The constable also blew up a closed circuit TV monitor in the security hold area of the Sahar terminal. He shot at the CCTV monitoring his movements, the Airports Authority of India Director, Sudhir Kumar, said today. — PTI
