Cardiac care centre for Pariyaram

PARIYARAM MAY 26. The hospital of the Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME) here will have a super-speciality cardiac care facility being set up jointly by the ACME's sponsor society, Kerala State Co-operative Hospital Complex and Centre for Advanced Medical Services Ltd. (KSCHC & CAMSL) and the Bangalore-based Narayana Hrudayalaya.

The cardiac hospital - Sahakarana Hrudayalaya - being started on the medical college campus on the basis of an agreement between the hospital society and the Narayana Hrudayalaya would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, here on June 8, announced the society president and Co-operation Minister, M.V. Raghavan, at a press conference here today. The ACME chairman and senior Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, would preside over the function, he said.

Stating that the cardiac care facility being opened in the medical college would be a major heart disease treatment centre in the region, Mr. Raghavan said that the heart hospital would have around 30 expert cardiac specialists, 100 expert nursing staff as well as paramedics. As per the tie-up, the society would provide the infrastructure and the Hrudayalaya would take care of its clinical side. The society had already spent Rs. 12 crores for procuring equipment and other infrastructural facilities required for the hospital being set up on 60,000 sq. feet area on the campus, he said.

Apart from 12 consultation rooms in the OP section, the newly set up 15-bed hospital would have ECG, treadmill, halter monitor, stress test and X-ray facilities. The hospital would also have general ward, paying ward, 12-bed intensive care unit, 20-bed coronary care unit and a round-the-clock casualty service, he said. It would also have facilities for angiogram, angioplasty and stenting, he said.

Stating that the Pariyaram Medical College would be developed into a medical complex, the Minister said that efforts for setting up BDS and B.Pharm colleges and colleges for paramedical courses on the campus was already under way
