Vasudevan, duty stationmaster of Mailam, near Tindivanam, was reportedly missing from duty for about an hour this morning. In the absence of the stationmaster, the signal system could not be operated at resulting in the detention of the Chennai - Guruvayur Express at Tindivanam and the Tiruchi - Chennai Pallavan Express at Perani station. As there was no response from the Mailam station when contacted over phone, Tindivanam station officials rushed to Mailam, where they found the stationmaster in an ``intoxicated mood'' in his quarters. A temporary stationmaster from Tindivanam took charge of the Mailam station and cleared the signal for the detained trains.
