YSR to offer worship at Tirumala

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD May 27. The CLP leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is planning to round off his "Praja Prasthanam'' with a visit to Tirumala and make thanksgiving offerings on June 17. His padayatra which has now crossed the 1,000-km-mark, will be ending at Itchapuram on June 15. Dr. Reddy will be addressing a public meeting there at 4 p.m. along with other senior leaders. He will be covering 1,470 km by then.

According to the CLP office sources, Dr. Reddy will then proceed to Tirupati by train on June 16 from Visakhapatnam. After reaching Tirupati the next day, the CLP leader will walk up to Tirumala to have darshan of the Lord of seven hills.

Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy crossed an important landmark in his padayatra by completing the 1,000-km-mark about 7 km before reaching Prattipadu in East Godavari district on Monday evening. By then, he had covered 431 villages of 36 Assembly segments.

Follow-up action has been taken in case of 2,321 petitions received by Dr. Reddy so far during his padayatra which began at Chevella of Rangareddy district on April 9. He has walked across Chevella, Parigi, Vikarabad and Tandur (in Rangareddy district), Sangareddy, Andhole, Medak, Ramayampet and Narsapur (Medak), Yellareddy and Kamareddy (Nizamabad), Nerella, Indurthy, Huzurabad and Kamalapur (Karimnagar), Sayampet, Parkal, Mulugu, Narsampet, Mahabubabad and Dornakal (Warangal), Yellandu, Sujathnagar, Palair, Khammam, Madhira and Sathupalli (Khammam), Chintalapudi, Polavaram, Gopalapuram and Kovvur (West Godavari) and Rajahmundry, Kadiam, Burugupudi, Jaggampet and Prattipadu (East Godavari) before crossing the 1,000-km- mark.

Our Rajahmundry Staff Reporter adds:

Deployment of child labourers, non-payment of minimum wages to the labourers and execution of work by a contractor rather than a Government agency were some of the irregularities in the execution of the Food-for- work programme noticed by the CLP leader at Ponthangicheruvu near Kotturu village, about 70 km from here on Tuesday.

Seeing that some work was going on in Ponthangicheruvu, Dr. Reddy went to the labourers and on enquiries the contractor revealed to him that he was doing the work under the FFW programme. The labourers told Dr. Reddy that they were being given 5 kg of rice while children were being given only 3 kg of rice. How could he employ child labourers. Why was he not paying the minimum wage. There was no response. Dr. Reddy instructed party workers to bring this to the notice of the Collector and see that proper wages were paid to labourers.

Speaking to newsmen at Nellipudi, where the padayatra was halted for lunch break, Dr. Reddy asserted that if returned to power the Congress would review all decisions of the TDP Government which had caused losses to the Government.

Apparently referring to Mahanadu, Dr. Reddy said that some political parties were busy celebrating birthdays with an eye on elections without bothering to help people who had been reeling under unprecedented drought.
