Women voters outnumber men

Pondicherry May 28 . There are 1,83,335 women voters spread over the Pondicherry, Oulgaret, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam municipal limits in the Union Territory of Pondicherry against 1,73,042 men voters. The women voters outnumber men in all commune panchayats also.

A communication from the State Election Commissioner, N. Rajasekar, said today there are 1,00,832 women voters in the Ariankuppam, Bahoor, Nettapakkam,Mannadipet and Villianoor (all in Pondicherry region) commune panchayats against 98,015 male voters. Similarly, the five commune panchayats in the Karaikal region - Kottuchery, Neduncadu, Neravy, T R Pattinam and Neravy - together have a total women voters of 30,832 while their male counterparts are 29,539.

Mr. Rajasekar gave the following municipality-wise break-up of voters: Pondicherry 66976 men, 70479 women, Oulgaret 67425 men, 68509women, Karaikal 18736 men, 20494 women, Mahe 11165 men, 14720 women, and Yanam 8740 men, 9133 women.

Following are the details of commune panchayat-wise strength of voters with strength of women voters given in brackets:

Pondicherry region : Ariankuppam 18241 (18504), Bahoor 17851 (18576) Nettapakkam 12945 (13461), Mannadipet 20165 (20814), Villianoor 28813 (29477).

Karaikal region: Kottuchery 5484 (5504), Neduncadu 4885 (4987), Neravy 3370 (3578), T R Pattinam 5579 (5929) and Tirunallar 10,221 (10,834).

Thus there are 1,31,664 women voters in all the commune panchayats in Pondicherry and Karaikal against the strength of 1,27,554 men voters in the panchayats.

The State Election Commission prepared the draft electoral rolls based on the voter lists finalised for all the 30 Assembly segments, keeping January 1 this year as the qualifying date. The draft rolls were brought to the notice of voters to receive claims or objections, if any. After giving the necessary time limit, the Electoral Registration Officers perused the applications and now published the final lists, which are now available for sale.
