The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, who briefed presspersons on the Cabinet decisions, said this would help increase production of cashew in the State. There was a persistent demand for expanding the areas under cashew. The cashew factories were now dependent on imports. With the enactment of the legislation, it would be possible to produce sufficient raw material for the cashew factories. Mr. Antony said the Government had not thought of bringing any restriction on conversion of tea or other plantations into cashew plantations. He said the Government had not yet discussed the impact of the court order banning politics on campus. It had not yet received a copy of the verdict. He would like to comment on the demand for the Government to go on appeal against the court order only after examining the matter. He would remember that he himself was a political activist during his student days, Mr. Antony told a questioner. He said the Government had written to the Chief Justice of the High Court that establishment of a Bench of the Court in Thiruvananthapuram would be beneficial. It helps administrative efficiency of the Government as officials would not have to go to Kochi in connection with Government cases.
