Meghalaya Plan fixed at Rs. 555 cr.

NEW DELHI MAY 28. The Annual Plan for Meghalaya for 2003-04 was fixed at Rs.555 crores at a meeting here today between the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, K. C. Pant, and the Meghalaya Chief Minister, D.D. Lapang.

Mr. Pant appreciated the development strategy pursued by the State during the past few decades, which was aimed at strengthening of techno-economic infrastructure and improving social services. This, he said, had improved the delivery system in health and education.

Mr. Pant recommended acceleration of rural electrification programme while pointing out that only 47 per cent of the villages had been electrified.

Mr. Lapang detailed the steps taken to mobilise additional resources and efforts to create necessary infrastructure.
