Sri Lanka's H. Rohan Pradeep Kumara (128) winning the men's 400m in the Asian athletics Grand Prix 2003 in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD MAY 28. Sri Lankan sprint queen Susanthika Jayasinghe and middle distance runner Tatyana Roslanova of Kazakhstan provided the silver lining to the proceedings of the Asian Grand Prix athletic championships at the GMC Balayogi stadium in Gachibowli here today.

Susanthika created a new meet record in the women's 100m by clocking 11.30s to break the record of 11.52s by fellow Sri Lankan Damayanthi Darsha, her old rival in Sri Lanka athletics.

The race began with Lyubov Perpelova of Uzbekistan taking the early lead but by the halfway mark, Susanthika overtook her and the rest of the field. The Sri Lankan ace then maintained her lead all the way to the finish.
