Karun on his future

By Our Sports Reporter

NEW DELHI MAY 28. India's teenaged racing star Karun Chandhok, still in formative years of his career, has learnt a hard lesson — the sport he has chosen is money-driven.

"It's lot harder for a driver like me to get good exposure in the current economic situation,'' Chandhok said at a press conference here. "It doesn't really matter what you know or can do, the important thing is who you know (in the racing circuit),'' he added.

Chandhok is on a high this season after winning four races so far in the 2003 British F-3 Scholarship class. The Indian currently stands second in the drivers list with 14 races still to go.

The 19-year-old Chandhok, who became the youngest ever Formula Asia champion in 2001, has planned to continue in the British F-3 well into the 2004 season.

"Britain is a hub of motorsport and if I perform well I hope to get spotted,'' Chandhok said. "May be same time next year, I hope to get some kind of look in (to test drive for a Formula One team)."
