CBI probe into death of Minister's servant

Jaipur May 28. The Government today announced that the case pertaining to the death of the Home Minister, Gulab Singh Shaktawat's servant, will be handed over to the CBI following Opposition demand for the Minister's resignation in the wake of allegations of foul play levelled by the victim's brother.

The Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, announced the decision to hand over the probe to the CBI after the BJP demanded Mr. Shaktawat's resignation and an impartial investigation into the death of his domestic help, Badan Singh Rawat.

The deceased's brother, Roop Lal, had filed a written complaint with the police alleging foul play in Rawat's death. ``Although the investigation into the death was being conducted impartially but fingers were being pointed to its impartiality and certain elements were trying to give the whole episode a political colour to gain political mileage by misleading the family members of the deceased. Therefore, the Chief Minister felt it expedient to refer the case to the CBI,'' an official release said.— PTI
