Too many Aruns ?

Berlin May 28. The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, committed a faux pas when he addressed the Commerce Minister, Arun Jaitely, as "Arun Shourieji'' while addressing a reception organised in his honour here last night. As Mr. Vajpayee began his speech at the function at the Inter-Continental Hotel, he looked around him and remarked ``Yashwant Sinhaji, Arun Shourieji...''

As the gathering comprising the Indian diaspora started laughing, both Mr. Vajpayee and Mr. Jaitley appeared a little embarrassed but they also had a hearty laugh. Mr. Vajpayee, however, soon made amends for the faux pas. After his address to the gathering, the Prime Minister said he would like the External Affairs Minister and the Commerce and Law and Justice Minister also to speak on the occasion. (The Foreign Minister will think I speak a lot on foreign issues and the other is Commerce and Law Minister...he can catch hold of me if I commit any mistake), he said. <137>— UNI
