We will move step by step: Jamali

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD May 28. The Pakistan Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, has reiterated his Government's resolve to progress towards dialogue but emphasised that the process should move forward in a structured manner.

``We will move step by step'', Mr. Jamali told his Cabinet colleagues as he apprised them of the developments on the Indo-Pak. front after the Vajpayee peace initiative.

Mr. Jamali referred to the nomination of Pakistan's High Commissioner to India and said Islamabad was keen to achieve peace, harmony and progress in the South Asian region.

The political crisis on the internal front weighed very much on his mind and this was evident in his repeated reference to the subject.

Mr. Jamali told his colleagues that the dignity and honour of Parliament was the collective responsibility of all the elected representatives and it was their responsibility to ensure the stability and continuity of the democratic system.

On the Legal Framework Order, the Prime Minister said his Government believed in democratic principles.

He expressed the confidence that the matter would be resolved in the larger interest of the nation.

This could only be achieved through dialogue, he said.

Pakistan and its people, he said, must benefit from restoration of democracy, which will be possible, only if every elected member contributed to the sustenance of the democratic order and translate it into growth and progress for the people.
