On July 30, 2000, Mr. Rajkumar and three others were abducted by the forest brigand, Veerappan, and his associates from a farmhouse at Dhoddagajanure in the Thalawady forest area. After 108 days, Mr. Rajkumar was released. The police had registered cases against 15 persons including Veerappan and arrested four TNLA activists. The activists were kept in the Coimbatore Central Prison. Bail applications were filed on behalf of Iniyan alias Govindaraj, Amirthalingam, Selvam alias Sathya, and Andril alias Elumalai, in the Erode district court. The Fast Track Court judge (in-charge district judge) Sathapillai, granting conditional bail ordered the activists to appear before the Thalawady police inspector daily in the morning and evening.
