Traffic hit as DEMU coaches derail

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI MAY 28. Traffic on up and down slow lines of the Chennai - Pattabiram suburban section was affected this evening as at least two coaches of empty mainline diesel EMU derailed at Villivakkam. The derailment occurred when the newly built DEMU coaches were on a trial run from Arakkonam to ICF.

According to Southern Railway sources, the coaches jumped off the rails while crossing a point near a level crossing at Villivakkam. Following this traffic on the up and down slow lines was affected and the suburban services were operated on fast lines, the sources added.
