Priest nabbed
The Tukaramgate police on Wednesday arrested a priest of the Maa Vaishanavi Temple at Mahendra Hills, Hari Krishna Sharma (32), who decamped with 64 tolas of gold ornaments belonging to three devotees. The stolen property worth Rs. 2.64 lakhs was recovered from him. Sharma hadconvinced three woman devotees that their financial problems could be solved if they offered special prayers with gold ornaments.
Constable suspended
The City Police Commissioner, M.V. Krishna Rao, on Tuesday suspended a head constable of Central Armed Reserve Headquarters, Mohd. Khaja, who allegedly harassed his daughter-in-law, Shabana Begum, for dowry. Shabana committed suicide on April 23 this year allegedly due to dowry harassment. In another case, two constables of Kanchanbagh police station, M. Balaswamy and Shivaji, were punished with reduction in pay scales for their alleged corrupt practices.
