Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the report, "RSS activist plays father to Muslim girl" ( May 26 ). Are all RSS activists anti-Muslim? Are all opponents of the RSS pro-Muslim? Anything that the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh does to hurt the sentiments of Muslims is immediately publicised so much so that no room is allowed for a patient examination of the issue. Will this not affect the interest of national solidarity? The case of the RSS activist teacher, Banambar Sahoo of Jamdhar village in Orissa, adopting a Muslim orphan girl and taking care of her till her marriage to a Muslim is a shining example. Mr. Sahoo could have simply converted the child to Hinduism, he could have prevented her from following the Islamic culture and prayer and have got her married to a Hindu. But he chose to be a true Hindu and allowed her to practise Islam. His good Samaritan act dispels the deep-rooted theory that the RSS and Muslims cannot have a meeting ground. Mr. Sahoo should be given a national award for communal harmony.
