Dowry menace

Sir, — This is with reference to Anjali Mody's article, "Deep-rooted disease" ( May 25 ). The Dowry Prohibition Act lacks teeth. Stringent punishment, say, one year imprisonment and a penalty of Rs.1 lakh, should be "awarded" to those giving, taking and demanding dowry.
