YSR demands all-party meet in mandals

By Our Staff Reporter

Rajahmundry May 29. The CLP leader, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, who completed his padayatra in East Godavari district on Thursday, demanded convening of all-party committees at the mandal level to ensure that the `one crore boons' announced by the Chief Minister reached the targeted groups and not cornered by TDP supporters and activists. He also wanted a white paper to be published on the promises made in the 1999 election manifesto of the TDP and their implementation. What had happened to the schemes like Mundadugu, Roshni, Velugu, Deepam etc, Dr.Reddy asked.

Dr. Reddy addressed public meetings at K. Kottam and Kotananduru villages and spoke to presspersons at Kakarapalli, about 90 km from Rajahmundry, from where he entered Visakhapatnam district in the evening. Referring to the sops announced at the Mahanadu, Dr.Reddy said that they were meant to take the farmers for a ride once again. Instead of announcing new sops requiring several hundred crores of rupees, the Chief Minister could give free power to farmers which would cost just Rs.350 crores.

Dr. Reddy charged the TDP Government with making life miserable for all sections of people, especially farmers. On one side the Chief Minister had been announcing sops to farmers, which included writing off interest, but at the ground level, officials had been harassing farmers to pay loans and interest, he said. Officials went to the extent of locking doors of farmers who failed to pay loans, he alleged. He reiterated his call to people not to pay cooperative loans and interest. His party would stand behind them.

Dr.Reddy, who had to suspend his padayatra in the district for six days because of health problems, said that he would cherish the memories of his stay in the district. His stay for six days had helped develop new and fruitful relations with party leaders, especially the youth, he said. Now he had realised that there were large tracks in the upland areas which remained very backward. Only the delta area in the district was rich and prosperous and not the entire district as was projected in other parts of the State.

Given a chance he would try to address the problems that were brought to his notice during his padayatra.

Dr. Reddy, who had entered the district on May 17, had to spend the highest number of 12 days in the district. Dr.Reddy who had covered more than 160 km in the district had reached the important milestone of completing 1000 km of his marathon prajaprasthanam at Prattipadu in the district. The DCC president and MLA, Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, the former Minister, Rangaih Naidu, and the former MPs, Thota Gopalakrishna adn P. Pallam Raju, and the PCC spokesman, Vundavilli Arun Kumar, and others participated.
