Good day for Indians

PARIS May 29. India's campaign in the French Open began on a bright note with both Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi advancing to the second round of the men's doubles with their respective partners on Thursday.

Paes and David Rikl of the Czech Republic, the fifth seeds, defeated the pair of David Adams of South Africa and Justin Gimelstob of United States 6-3, 6-2.

Second-seeded Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi of Belarus then beat Thomas Shimada of Japan and Myles Wakefield of South Afirca 7-5, 6-3.

In the second round, Paes and Rikl will play the U.S. duo of Rick Leach and Brian MacPhie while Bhupathi and Mirnyi meet the French combination of Thierry Ascione and Julien Varlet.
