Wage hike for civic staff

Pondicherry May 29. The Pondicherry Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, today announced a hike in wages paid to civic employees (daily wage paid staff) with retrospective effect from January this year.

The clerical staff and drives attached to municipalities and also commune panchayats who were getting a daily pay of Rs. 155 would now get Rs. 158 for a day. Those who were employed as part time staff with duty hours exceeding three hours a day would be paid Rs. 1976 a month instead of Rs. 1938 available so far.

Elumalai said in a press release today that those with less than three-hour work schedule a day would be paid Rs. 1482 a month against Rs. 1453 paid so far.
