Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
In a letter to the Chief Minister and the Industries Minister Mr. Jayakumar said that the management (NTC) of these mills had declared lay off and was paying less wages on the ground of layoff. But the staff in the establishment wings had been paid full wages and allowances. He said that the trade unions had protested the approach of the management. He alleged that the lay off itself was resorted to unilaterally by the management without prior permission of the Administration. Hence it was illegal in nature. Mr. Jayakumar (who continues to be a TMC legislator despite the party`s merger with the ruling Congress is also supporting the Congress Government from outside) said that the Chief Minister should draw the attention of the higher ups in the NTC to the plight of the workers in the two mills.
