Welfare schemes announced only with eye on polls: TRS

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD May 29. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Wednesday criticised the TDP president and Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for changing his priorities and announcing a spree of welfare schemes with an eye on next elections.

The party also launched a scathing attack on Mr. Naidu for his remarks at the Mahanadu that the all-round development of Andhra Pradesh would be possible only if it is united. Addressing a press conference here, the TRS public representatives' forum chairman, A. Narendra, and others said that Mr. Naidu who actively took part in the `Jai Andhra' movement of the early 70s is now harping on a united Andhra Pradesh in the name of administrative convenience which only reflects his imperialistic tendencies. "But for suicides of farmers and starvation deaths, what did Telangana achieve in the past four decades after it was united with Andhra,'' he asked.

Referring to the sops announced by the Chief Minister for farmers, he said that Mr Naidu, who was not concerned about the suicides and starvation deaths for the past seven years, had set aside his "hitech policies and online administration'' and started talking about farmers' problems. This was yet another attempt by the Chief Minister to hoodwink the people with his empty promises to get political mileage. However, the people had realised the intentions of the TDP president and were prepared to teach him a fitting lesson in the next elections, he asserted.

The TRS leaders also took strong objections to the Government's decision to make it mandatory for students to recite the poem "Maa Telugu Talliki'' every day during the prayer. "The poem is meant for the Andhra region as they are being benefited by the Krishna and Godavari river waters as mentioned in it. We will oppose any move by the Government to implement its orders in the Telangana region,'' they said.
