Issue of applications for medical courses from May 31

CHENNAI May 29. The application and prospectus for admission to I year MBBS/BDS and para-medical courses for 2003-04 will be issued at all government medical colleges, Tamil Nadu Government Dental College, Chennai and the Government Physiotherapy College at Tiruchi, from May 31 to June 10.

The last date for receipt of filled-in applications at the Medical Selection Committee office is June 11 (5 p.m), says a release from the Director of Medical Education, C. Ravindranath.

The cost of application for MBBS/BDS course is Rs.500 and for paramedical courses, Rs.350 and the cost of applications for each `Special category' is Rs.100. The applications can be obtained on payment of the required amount in the form of a DD, drawn in favour of the Secretary, Selection Committee. The SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying the application form cost.

The applications can be downloaded from the web site: www.tnhealth.org. The filled-in forms should be submitted to the Selection Committee along with the required DD.

Candidates seeking admission under `special category' should also fill the common application form prescribed for the `general category'. No special category application would be considered, if not accompanied by the general category application, adds the release.

Tamil Nadu has 11 government colleges offering MBBS courses (1,255) seats, besides the IRT Perundurai Medical College and two self-financing institutions. In the government colleges, 158 seats will go for the all-India quota and another 71 last year was allotted for special category. In all, 1,026 seats will be available under the single window system. In the self-financing sector, one college is declared a minority institution.

In the BDS, the are 51 seats in the only government dental college and less than 500 seats in the seven self-financing dental colleges, including two minority institutions.

The rank list for medical admission is likely to be released by June 15 and the counselling is likely to be held before June 20, according to officials.

The exact number of seats available for counselling under various courses is likely to emerge only during counselling sessions.
